The Bike Medic Team is comprised of West Jackson Fire Department personnel who are either state certified EMTs or Paramedics. With Emergency Medical Service delivery hinging on early access to EMS intervention, the bike medic program is ideal. The team is capable of meeting the specific need of rapid response by utilizing bicycles and atvs. They are deployed during special events, conventions, and athletic events which may have extreme crowds and densely populated areas with limited access for larger vehicles.
Each team is capable of operating day or night and is equipped with Basic Life Support equipment to include Automated External Defibrillator, oxygen, trauma, and medical supplies. The team members are also equipped with portable radios to call for Advanced Life Support Ambulances, additional Fire Department, and Law Enforcement Support as needed.
Each member undergoes training that is based on the International Police/EMS Mountain Bike Association as well as Georgia State Law and Code as it relates to bicycles.
Not only does the Bike Medic Team offer EMS response, they also serve as safety advocates relating to bicycle and roadway safety.
