Corey West
Firefighter/AEMT
FF/EMT Corey West started in the fire service in April of 1990 with the Midway Fire Department in Albany, NY as a volunteer. Was hired by Dekalb County Fire in May of 1998 and left after 5 years when offered the job with the FDNY. After 20 years with the FDNY, he retired and moved back to GA and started with the West Jackson Fire Department in November of 2023.
In addition to traditional fire service training, he was fortunate enough through the years to receive additional training and experience in the following disciplines; Rope Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, Dive Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Fire Department Marine Operations and being a regular FAO of Engine and Ladder Companies.
He has also spent time in several special assignments, including being a member in a Type I All Hazards Incident Management Team and as a member of the Marine Division, of the FDNY. During his 10 years with the IMT he had notable deployments to Puerto Rico for Hurricane Maria in 2017, Houston Texas for Hurricane Harvey in 2017, south Florida in 2017 for Hurricane Irma, and the Pine Gulch Wildfire in Colorado in 2020. During his time in the Marine Division, he was exposed to a vast amount of training and experience in the maritime setting and was able to earn his US Coast Guard OUPV and 100 Ton Captains License.
Corey has been married to his wife Brandy since 2007 and they have a son, Peyton. They enjoy traveling as Brandy has been a flight attendant for over 20 years. They also love spending time on the water or next to it on a beach.
